NEW FEATURE: Best & Secondary positions

I love this idea! One of my pet peeves with the game since day 1 is that lining up with five 50 rated OTs as your offensive line is better than lining up with two 49 rated OTs, two 49 rated OGs and a 49 rated C.

Good receiving backs should (IMO) perform reasonably well at WR. Players such as Theo Riddick, Todd Gurley and David Johnson (though I’m not sure if DJ is in the game yet).

Good receiving TEs like Zach Ertz and Jimmy Graham should perform well at WR too.

Versatile offensive linemen who have played multiple positions during their NFL career (such as Zack Martin, Lael Collins) should be able to play tackle and guard.

This is a great idea! This will allow players who are one of the best at their positions to really stand out. Before, the BR group was dominated by running backs for the top players to play in your lineup (Melvin Gordon, Mark Ingram, Todd Gurley, Lamar Miller, LeSean McCoy, Derrick Henry, etc.). Now, it seems players like Zach Ertz, who is one of the best Tight Ends but just an average rated BR, will finally be able to have a large impact on someones team.

I am curious how the position groups will be split up. Will the 5 BR positions be split into 2 WRs, 2 RBs, 1 TE? Will there be possible formations people can choose from?

    Love the idea though

Love the idea. Makes it much more realistic. Just wish F2P (cash) was easier as now i have 2 good guards and 3 tackles but no center and no money to buy a center.
Ditto for RB's/WR with no TE.

Hey guys! We're glad to hear that you're happy about this new feature.

You'll still be able to line them up in the same way you can now, however, if that player isn't in his best position, it's possible that, in some matches, their performance won't be as great as it could be, but that doesn't mean they'll play badly.

You can find more information about this in our Blog post that we released today:

Cordarrelle Patterson has taken lots of snaps from RB as well as WR and though he isn’t great at either position, he should be able to play RB at a similar standard to how well he plays WR.

Larry Fitzgerald sometimes lines up at the TE position and is one of the best run blockers at the WR position. I think Fitz should be able to play TE to a higher standard than other WRs on NFL manager.

Hi @cwllfc -- Thanks for this. We'll take this into account, although keep in mind that the positions we have are taken from NFL.com.

Currently some players are still listed as OL such as Marcus Cannon and as already posted, some players can play multiple position so would be nice to see what position YOU class them as in the auction and direct buy before the feature is implemented.

Also, NTs are currently in with LBs and with 3 spaces on the line up for LBs but we have OLB, MLB and ILB would be nice to have a video/post of what positions or what set ups will be available. Same goes for Offense. Can we have 3 WRs 1TE and 1RB or will we have to have 2 WRs 2 RBs and 1 TE for 'optimal' positioning

    Hi @Jeff Berry,

We're aware of the position issue with the NTs and that was caused by an issue in our database. We're working to resolve that as soon as possible.

We understand that players play in different positions, and this is why we wanted to implement this kind of feature. Thanks for sharing your feedback. We're going to review this with the team.

I cant find any information on how much penalty a player suffers when playing out of position.
i.e Is it better to play a 40 rating player than a 60 player out of position?

    Hi @Joff Berry,

There is no direct penalty, just simply that it's possible that the player won't perform as well as he would if he was in his best position. Let us know if you have any other questions about this.

For any additional questions like this, please kindly send them in our "General Questions" thread so we can keep the forum as organized as possible.

    Thanks!

As part of this improvement are there any plans to further enforce positional restrictions?

I.e. is there going to be any use in having a TE on the roster? At the moment they're not particularly useful as there are loads of BR players with higher points totals and that will be the case throughout the season.

This feature is needed even more now that people have unlocked rosters for the defensive side of the ball.

Many DEs/DTs/OLBs play different positions depending on if they are playing in a 4-3 or a 3-4. To use current/former Cardinals as an example, if the Cardinals were playing a 4-3 then Chandler Jones would be a DE, but if we were playing a 3-4 then Jones would be an OLB.

Calais Campbell played in AZ when we played a 3-4, and he played DE. Jacksonville, his current team, play a 4-3 (I think) and so he plays as a DT.

The above currently isn’t reflected in the game and it means that players like Terrell Suggs are considered to be playing in their natural position when he is played at OLB in a 4-3. Suggs is not at all suited to this role, he’d be far more comfortable if he were to play DE in a 4-3.
